No one is just a diagnosis. Mental health is about people, not just labels.

Three paper labels hanging by string

We believe in the right of the person to identify, define, and understand their own experiences. "Psychosis" can be understood in a variety of ways including spiritual experiences, gifts, adaptations to trauma or sociopolitical environments, neurodiversity and/or illness. Too many people are told their struggles are just symptoms to be managed rather than human experiences to make sense of. Healing goes beyond labels—it’s about rebuilding connection, finding meaning, and addressing the real causes of distress.

I went to my first conference needing to find other family members who were also struggling with the diagnosis, hospitalization, and medication routine. I appreciate the "trialogue" unique to ISPS where the voices of family members, folks with lived experience and clinicians are expressed in an open and supportive environment. I continue to be inspired by those within ISPS-US, learning ideas, strategies and hearing hopeful people discuss topics that affect my family and me every day.
