Mind-brain-body healing: Yoga for Schizophrenia

According to a 2005 study published in Psychological Reports, more than 60% of patients diagnosed with a psychiatric illness employ some type of complementary or alternative treatment, with 20% using physical treatments such as yoga and massage. While there has been little research on the effectiveness of yoga for schizophrenia, there have been some positive reports indicating that yoga can decrease symptoms and improve social and occupational functioning as well as subjective feeling of well-being.

For those of you in the NYC area, Dhara NYC sponsors a Pathways to Wellness class and other yoga training for people suffering with psychiatric issues, at low to no cost. For more information, contact  Jenna Ritter at: jenna@dharanyc.org.
